Zurich launches search for eco-champions

  • In October this year we are excited to be facilitating the first Youth Against Carbon Conference: YAC Con
  • The event aims to enable and empower the next generation of climate activists to better combat climate change
  • Do you know an eco-champion between the ages of 7-24? We would love for them to apply to take part in YAC Con by Monday 7th September

Do you know a young person with a passion for the environment? Have you ever wanted to help a sustainability champion achieve their goals? This year we are excited to be facilitating the first Youth Against Carbon Conference: YAC Con. YAC Con is on the lookout for eco-champions aged 7-24.

What is YAC Con?

YAC Con is the first in what we hope will be an annual climate conference which aims to enable and empower the next generation of climate activists to better combat climate change. We aim to answer the question: What role should young people play in combatting the carbon crisis?

The ultimate aim will be to create a Blueprint for Action that their peers throughout the UK can get behind. Why are we doing this:

  • Almost two thirds (61%) of young people worry the Government is only focused on the economy
  • More than two thirds (68%) say tackling climate change is just as important as rebuilding the economy
  • 72% believe tackling climate change should be a top property for world leaders.

The conference will take place on 13 October and be broadcast live on Instagram TV (IGTV). Social influencer and BBC TV presenter Maddie Moate will host a debate with Mikaela Loach (22), an eco-campaigner and sustainable lifestyle blogger, Amy and Ella Meek (16 & 14) – founders of Kids Against Plastic and Mya-Rose – a prominent naturalist, passionate about birds and conservation and author of the Birdgirl blog. But we want three more young minds to inform the discussion as part of the panel.

How can people get involved?

Do you know an eco-champion between the ages of 7-24? Could they have a part to play in this conversation or even be the next Greta Thunberg? We would love for them to apply to take part in YAC Con. Applications close on Monday 7th September.

Apply to be a part of YAC Con here

Successful applicants will also be eligible to pitch for one of two bursaries of £2,500 to support an environmental cause or project they are working on – as well as consultancy from Zurich’s senior sustainability experts. Could this be the way to kick off a local initiative they have in mind for their school, community or workplace?

The entire conference will be carbon neutral, travel for attendees will be offset through tree planting. If you aren’t selected as a panellist you can attend online, with YAC Con broadcast live on Instagram TV (IGTV). Keep up-to-date by joining the event here.

We look forward to sharing more information with you in the build up to YAC Con. You can find all the latest information here.
